Friday 11th August at this year’s We Out Here marks exactly 50 years to the day since DJ Kool Herc and his sister Cindy’s legendary Sedgewick Avenue Party, recognised by many as the official birthplace of Hip Hop.

Right across the weekend at the festival we’ll be celebrating Hip Hop’s anniversary with a host of special guests, and special content, showing love to one of the most important movements in modern music.

We’re very excited to announce new additions to the line up. Japan’s DJ Koco, The Magnificent Jazzy Jeff, deep digger Elsewhere Sonido, as well as UK legends DJ Sarah Love & Jehst and much more to announce over the coming weeks…

Design: thanks to Mat Bailey for the old school hiphop poster vibes.

A great recap of 11 August 1973: DJ Kool Herc and his sister Cindy (the first hip-hop promoter!) talk to Christie’s about the humble beginnings and evolution of the block party.
